Sonja Mishek asked:

What is Web Video Conferencing?

Put simply – it’s a way for you to meet “live” in-person computer to computer from anywhere you are. Or have online meetings where you share documents or applications or give a PowerPoint presentation. It can be almost like T.V.!

Do I need software?

There are several web video conferencing providers that are 100% web-based. There is no software for you or your guests to download, install, or configure so anyone, anywhere can attend your meeting.

Will It Interfere or Cause Problems on My Network?

If you have a 100% web-based system, it’s impossible for it to interfere with your network in any way.

How much does it cost?

The cost of conferencing providers has come down significantly. You can get it for as little as $79 dollars a month for unlimited meetings for up to 50 guests. That makes it affordable for every business on a budget.

What Equipment Do I Need?

You’ll need a desktop or laptop, a web camera and microphone if you want to be seen and heard, and most important – a high speed internet connection. The quality of your meeting is directly related to your internet speed.

What if I don’t have a webcam?

No problem. You only need a webcam if you want to be seen.

How much do Web cameras cost?

You can buy web cameras for as little as $29 dollars. Be aware though, the quality of your video depends on the quality of your web cam. Look for a web video conferencing provider that includes the web cameras.

Do guests have to download any software to attend a meeting?

Not if you have a 100%, web based provider.

Is it difficult to use and host a meeting?

Absolutely not. It only takes 4 clicks of the mouse to set up a meeting. With some providers, an automatic email invitation is sent to your guests so they have an easy direct link to your meeting. Simple enough for a 5th grader!

What about audio – is there a separate fee for that?

No – it’s automatically included.

Will I be charged for more guests?

You will have a set number of guests you are allowed to have in a meeting based on the package you purchase. I recommend packages that allow up to 50 guests so you’ll never be charged for additional guests.

I hope these answer most of your questions about web video conferencing.
